Edible Food Forest
When we first bought this land, it was mostly olive and almond trees. Over the years, we have planted more than 150 additional trees, shrubs, herbs, and groundcovers. Bit by bit, the land is transforming into a food forest, a thriving ecosystem full of insects, animals, herbs, fruits, and more. Each year, we are able to harvest more and more from our trees and plants.
By following permaculture principles, we create a landscape where every element has a purpose and interacts with the others. We make sure the soil is well covered, and by planting strategically and creating plenty of shade, we can better cope with the challenges of drought.
Our property now includes a wide variety of fruit and nut trees, including avocado, lemon, lime, pomelo, guava, grape, passion fruit, kaki, almond, olive (both for preserving and oil production), macadamia, pitanga, and Carissa berries, as well as a rich assortment of herbs such as oregano, lavender, rosemary, mint, curry leaf, bay leaf, and sage. Each tree, shrub, and groundcover contributes to a resilient ecosystem, full of life and biodiversity..
